Sool

Ellen Allien has been carving out electronic meanderings reflective of the electronic scene in Berlin since she founded her label Bpitch Control in 2001. While her last album Orchestra of Bubbles (with Apparat) was an impeccable dance floor raven put forth like a product syndicate for IDM, Sool leaves the accesible groove of its predecessor for the minimal criterion that hid within it.

Where You Go To I Go Too

The track lengths are the first thing you notice about Norwegian Hans-Peter Lindstrøm's debut LP: 30 minutes, 10 minutes, 16 minutes. In case you hadn't guessed, this is epic stuff. Anyone familiar with Lindstrøm's earlier releases will know his sound was already pretty expansive, career highlight I Feel Space exemplifying the disco beats wrapped around endlessly growing layers of sweeping space excess that have made his name.

Just A Souvenir

Squarepusher a.k.a. Tom Jenkinson has flirted with revealing the creative process behind his work before: the Squarepusher Manifesto included with Do You Know Squarepusher was a glimpse into the mind of someone who takes his work very seriously indeed. Accompanying his new release Just a Souvenir is 'Just a Story', an altogether more esoteric look inside the mind of one of British Electronica's stalwarts.

Kondens

Somewhere between ambient and dream pop, in the lands forged by Eno and A.R. Kane, there's a strain of something that sounds suspiciously like both but, more suspiciously, like neither. Swedish musician Erik Levander has stumbled on a strain of musical experimentation that's mood-affecting in its tonalities; Kondens is the result.
My Mind Is Falling To Pieces

Since his first 7" release in 1999, Frenchman Laurent Girard has been quietly carving out a niche and making a name for himself in the world of ambient electronic music. Released on a multitude of different labels (Static Caravan, audio dregs, Autres Directions in Music) under the name Melodium, Girard's catalogue is as sizeable as it is impressive – My Mind Is Falling To Pieces is his twelfth CD album, and audio dregs are imminently about to release number thirteen.

d_rradio

For their eponymous full-length, d_rradio has assembled a nearly indistinguishable but carefully made set of calming psychedelic instrumentals. The beats are skittery, almost glitchy at times, but always clicking and percolating beneath the track, almost afraid to disturb.

The Devil, You + Me

"Lets just imitate the real until we find a better one". Whilst an admirable sentiment on opening song Good Lies, it feels a little close to home on the latest offering from Munich's Notwist, still trying to hit the heights of their last full length album Neon Golden. Since then their career has been mostly in EPs and remixes and it still feels very bitty, like The Devil, You + Me imitates perhaps a collection of Neon Golden b-sides and the Notwist haven't quite found a new real.

Saturdays = Youth

On the strength of previous experience, early rumours, and reports of an admiring kinship between Anthony Gonzalez and James "Maps" Chapman, it did appear that the fifth M83 album was going to be Loveless to We Can Create's Isn't Anything.

Quaristice

Warp Records may not have lost its status as a guarantee of quality, but the stylistic guarantees that used to come with the label are arguably the stuff of history these days. After all, their biggest commercial success has come via some jittery post-punk, while the rosiest critical spoils have gone to some lunatic math-jazz, and two of the stable's finest hopes are channelling performers as diverse as Stevie Wonder and My Bloody Valentine.

Tiger, My Friend

The fact that Grey's Anatomy hasn't made a household name out of Galia Durant the way that the iPod has with Feist or Skins did with Beth Ditto could be said to be nothing short of a tragedy. With the best will in the world, though, it's hardly a mystery, as this reissue amply demonstrates; after all, Let It Die and That's Not What I Heard may have been decidedly leftfield affairs, but they might as well have been the work of X Factor winners compared to this...
