I know how easy it is to consistently pick from the same source material for comparables when the English language fails to properly convey the musical product of a somewhat idiosyncratic musical producer.  Take the Nuggets boxset for instance:  It’s very copious coverage of a large number of proto-punk, garage and psychedelic music from an influential era basically guarantees its perpetual reference.  Maus Haus is no exception to this rule, their home city being San Francisco, and their music owing something to the Nuggets timeline.

Recently renamed The Soft Pack, The Muslims released their self-titled record 9 months ago through 1928 Recordings. Frankly, I'm surprised I am only getting turned on to them now.

Nowadays it seems that turning out an album every 18 months or so is enough for some lazy music writer to label you 'prolific'. Jay Reatard is different: a cursory glance at the partial discography on his Wikipedia page confirms that his work-rate justifies the tag. With the Reatards, Lost Sounds, a whole host of other bands and side projects, and now as a solo artist, Jay Reatard has released around thirty singles in the last five years. Kevin Shields he most certainly is not.

I love the name of this band.  Despite the fact that there’s nothing Japanese at all about Vancouver two-piece, Japandroids, (JPNDRDS), it’s the type of thing that garners two-thumbs up from me simply because it’s funny and I don’t mind having the more childish aspects of my psyche tickled by a clever feather.
