Animal Collective – Time Skiffs
The band’s fourth post-MPP release is easy-going and even a little boring.
Indie Pop
Hana Vu – Public Storage
Steeped in alt-rock and new wave influences and “you can't prove this is about you" vagaries, Vu’s full-length debut is just the right balance of melodrama, defiance, and inhibition.
Phoebe Bridgers – Punisher
Phoebe Bridgers takes a leap on her sophomore LP, Punisher.
Vivian Girls – Memory
Memory poignantly conveys how time has caught up with the Vivian Girls. It may look into the past, but the trio are not the same anymore both creatively and personally.
Boygenius – boygenius
No longer in isolation with their own turmoil and emotions, boygenius gives each artist more light to combat the darkness.
Animal Collective – Painting With
The Collective’s tenth album is another patchy reminder of how far they’ve slipped.
The xx – Coexist
The xx’s second album is a worthy follow-up to their Mercury Prize-winning debut.
