Beatles! Bowie! Ken Scott Interview

Any fans of the Beatles out there?  Yeah?  How about David Bowie?  I thought so.  Maybe Elton John and Supertramp are nothing to sneeze at as well.  Well, here we have a new memoir by the man who recorded all of them: Ken Scott.  If you’re a rock fan you probably know the name, but do you know what he did and how he did it?  Why is the schoolyard chatter at the opening of Supertramp’s School so realistic it’ll have you yelling out the window to get those damn kids off your lawn?

In Abbey Road to Ziggy Stardust, Ken (along with co-writer Bobby Owsinski) tells us what it was like recording some of the great masterpieces of rock and roll; from the White Album to Hunky Dory, Transformer to Honky Chateau.  He also reveals the equipment and setups he used on many of those iconic records, making this a terrific read for the audio geeks out there as well as the casual music fan.  So, fellow No Ripcorder, if you haven’t already pre-ordered the book you can do so now on Amazon (link below).  There’s almost no way you’re not going to get a huge kick out of all the stories Ken has to tell.

.I had a great conversation with Ken recently in which we talked about the role of the engineer, and what it was like working with some of the great luminaries in the rock pantheon.  He was as charming and gracious as I could have hoped.  This interview is cross-posted on the High and Low Podcast (Subscribe via Itunes).  Click on that link, or listen to the audio on the flash player below.
