Kids on a Crime Spree Fall in Love Not in Line

(Slumberland) Rating - 5/10

In the Quick Takes section we tend to forego the convoluted backstories and scene-setting anecdotes, instead skipping straight to the verdict—and rarely have I been more grateful for that. Oakland trio Kids on a Crime Spree is guilty of delivering a 24 minute record that somehow overstays its welcome. Fall in Love Not in Line plays its strongest two cards first (When Can I See You Again is my pick) and follows with eight increasingly turgid variations on the same theme, which I’m going to dub Slumberland-by-numbers. It’s a fairly niche theme, admittedly. Ducks Ltd. showed us there’s plenty of life left in this genre with last year’s glorious Modern Fiction. Be kind to yourself and listen to that instead.
