Do It Again

Röyksopp & Robyn Do It Again

(Cherrytree/Interscope)

Between them, Röyksopp and Robyn have been responsible for some of the most exhilarating and interesting Scandinavian pop and dance music of the last decade, so hopes were already high for their upcoming mini-album. On the evidence of this, the title track, those hopes are now positively stratospheric. Between them, they’ve found the middle ground between Röyksopp’s more straightforward dance styles and Robyn’s wonderfully askance pop, and come up with a house-based monster of a tune which recalls current chart music while simultaneously having more ingenuity and humanity than the whole Top 40 put together. Robyn’s vocals (“I don’t wanna stop / I know I should / Let’s do it again”) hint at far more below the surface of this song, and the innate understanding displayed here on how to craft a tune mean that Do It Again sounds just as good on the twentieth listen as it did on the first.
